Constructed with corrosion resistant 316L stainless steel, the Steinhart Ocean 2 Black sure feels like a solid dive watch with the impressive build quality we have come to expect from Steinhart. Its tasteful dimensions boasts a bold and confident character on the wrist with a beefy case diameter of 43mm, a lug to lug distance of 51mm and a thickness of 13mm. Finishes are skilfully executed, presenting a satin brushed finish on the top of the lugs and the side of the case, intricately divided with a high polished chamfered edge for an extra dash of refinement.

The sizable screw-down crown at the 3 o’clock position stands out as one of the prominent design features of the Steinhart Ocean 2 Black, providing a substantial grip with its deep knurling signed with a black-filled Steinhart logo. Operating the crown is certainly a gratifying experience here. With this, the watch is equipped with a considerable 300 meters of water resistance for your diving needs, even if you’re only desk diving.

This exceptional bezel on the Steinhart Ocean 2 Black definitely brings it to a whole new level with a compelling sapphire bezel insert for superior scratch resistance. The black 120-click unidirectional diving bezel is purposely designed with an extremely grippy edge with deep tactile grooves for a firm grip when rotating the bezel, a perfect feature for divers operating with thick diving gloves. The Ocean 2 Black is supplied with a robust 22mm stainless steel bracelet with solid end links, secured on the wrist with a deployant clasp.

Perhaps the most significant update Steinhart dropped on the Steinhart Ocean 2 series can be found right in the dial, showcasing a revitalizing dial layout with a brand new distinctive set of hands that simply looks gorgeous. Subtle red accents on the tip of the second hand, date wheel and text on the dial adds a splash of colour to further elevate the sporty nature of the piece. 


Large Arabic numerals on the 12, 3, 6 and 9 hour markers rests on a row of concentric circles, a subtle but charming detail Steinhart implemented to bring an additional layer of depth and sophistication. Above all, Swiss Super-LumiNova BGW9 lume are generously treated on hands and hour markers for a cool blue glow in the dark. The dial sits under a piece of domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment on the underside for utmost clarity.

The Steinhart Ocean 2 Black houses a Sellita SW200-1 Elaboré grade automatic movement, calibrated for better accuracy performance. This 26 jewel movement operates at a 4 Hz beat rate of 28,800 beats per hour (BPH) which features handwinding and hacking capabilities. The SW200 is an established movement that is widely popular even in many other Swiss brands as it has been proven to be a robust and reliable “workhorse” movement. Secured with a screw-in solid stainless steel case back, the back of the watch displays a fascinating engraving of an octopus, a nod to the Ocean 2’s incredible underwater prowess.
